Project Location: London, Ontario

NA Engineering Associates Inc. (NAE) was retained by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Community of London & Vicinity to bring a new front entry and reception space to the existing Hellenic Community Centre at 131-133 Southdale Road in London, ON. The project began with an application for funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. NA Engineering Associates Inc. was then engaged to provide consulting services for Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineering disciplines, as well as project planning and administration services from concept through to construction. The requirements of the design included a 5700 s.f. addition with a new entry and gathering gallery with updated façade for greater public visibility. The new administration and meeting spaces, library and historic display areas are all complemented by barrier-free access throughout the main floor. A grand mezzanine provides a multi-level gallery space for public events. Features include large glazed areas and open spaces in the gallery and throughout the addition. Exposed structural steel and mechanical systems provide a welcoming space with a modern feeling of industrial design. The inclusion of wood and tile elements throughout marry the old and the new. Energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems are integrated with digital controls to automate systems and keep operations costs in check. Installation of boilers, rooftop units and hydronic reheat provides a mechanical system that is both energy efficient and comfort focused. The finished product will serve the client’s needs for many years to come providing a bright, welcoming and functional addition to this great community hall.
