Project Location: Aylmer, Ontario

The Ontario Police College in Aylmer Ontario is an institution for training future police officers with vocational and physical training facilities available. Within the main building of the college is a large gymnasium that had been previously converted to its present usage for training in defensive tactics. To address complaints of thermal discomfort and lack of air circulation NA Engineering Associates Inc. reviewed the existing mechanical systems and provided practical, cost effective recommendations to upgrade the current HVAC system to improve these conditions. Mechanical, Electrical and Structural permit drawings and specifications were prepared, assistance in project tendering was provided and construction reviews conducted to follow the system upgrade to success. In addition to modifications to the existing constant volume built-up air handling unit, a new energy efficient gas fired roof top HVAC unit was installed to afford the occupants the ability to close the folding partition that separates the gymnasium during certain exercises and have independent comfort conditions on each side. The new unit is connected to the College BAS system so control and performance can be monitored, and CO2 sensors modulate to assure the correct amount of fresh air is available per occupant quantity. Electrical services were reviewed to confirm suitability as was roof structure reviewed for capacity and modifications provided.
