Pickering Dry Storage Container Buildings

In 2007, Alberici Constructors were retained by the Pickering Waste Management Division to provide design/build services for construction of two buildings to house the concrete cannisters which store spent nuclear fuel bundles.  NA Engineering Associates Inc. was tasked with providing structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil / municipal engineering services for the project.  Each Storage Building has the capacity to store 480 Dry Storage Containers (DSCs). A detailed and challenging design process was undertaken for all disciplines, including retention of on-site storm water, electrical interfaces and tie-ins with existing site services, structural design to accommodate extreme heavy loads from the DSC transporter and a passive ventilation system for the facility.
